I am also an avid ateneo fan. I was so inspired with what ateneo lady eagles were showing in their past games. They showed us that even though they are a rookie team, they were giving the other champion teams a run for their money. Kudos to the lady eagles. Though, admitted that they can’t make it to the finals this season. We should watch out for this young talented team fot the next seasons to come, they could be the champions. Hope they could reach into the final four this season. Both for the Men’s and the Women’s VT.

well guys, based on the evaluation of teams, DLSU is a strong team this season. if im not mistaken, they are no.1 on attacks, no. 1 on receiving, no. 2 on blocking, no. 3 on service, no.4 on succesful sets.. i hope feu beats them again!

FEU is doing a great job! Still looking forward to defend their crown… in last 2 games, although they start too slow but then they still get to finish the game with a win after 2 crucial 5-setter matches. WOW!

They’re the #1 team to beat this season (but still girls from Taft Ave., DLSU Lady Archers are also searching for redemption) so far so good as they’ve been tied with Lady Tams for the #1 spot.

whew… Lady Tams have this tendency to start very slow but when they heat up… darn… they really play well! i am hoping though that DLSU will bag the crown this season… i just couldn’t help myself but admire the Vintage Ila Santos and her amazing attack form. Benting may be a close comparison but the maturity as a player, i still go for Ila Santos. This season, Maizo has really improve her game… from being just a 4th option last year (bernal, balse, tabaquero), now she drives the UST tigresses with such great attacks (whether backset, combi attack or an open attack) and superb blocks.

final four forecast if you’ll ask me: dlsu, feu, adamson and ust

note: ateneo rookies are a threat but the team needs a leader (no more Charo Soriano and her variety of attacks hehehe)

    how i see the teams:
    1. DLSU – great blocking team next to UST – great variety in terms of attacks – powerhouse in terms of players – needs a more steady setter (no more Saet)
    2. FEU – slow starter but great finisher – their quick attacks are really giving them the advantage – superb back row defense
    3. Adamson – great diggers – use to have a very amazing setter (serafica) – great angle shots (from laguiles, her ability to adjust in mid-air)
    4. UST – number blocking team – poor back row defense – needs a more steady setter (tan is slow, dimaculangan needs maturity)
    5. Lady Eagles – great recruits this season (ho, cainglet, ferrer, gervacio) – needs a leader (no more Charo Soriano, variety of attacks)

    whew…

Galing ng FEU, boring na succeding games ng FEU, dapat paghandaan nalang nila ang game nila against La Salle. I have strong feeling, Lasalle will going to get the title this season.

Great Finisher. Manalo matalo okey lang, dahil nilampaso na nila UST for very long time!

This is not an accurate schedule. Some games are repeated twice on the same round.

February 1 – The Arena (SUN)
2 PM – NU vs FEU
4 PM – ADMU vs UST

February 4 – FEU Gym (WED)
2 PM – NU vs FEU
4 PM – UST vs UE

NU and FEU is going to fight twice? Sayang I needed these schedules pa naman.

We all know that Ateneo is still a team with a lot of rookies, a new breed of team to mold under a new coach (Roger Gorayeb) to help them out! Means that they’re too serious in grabbing their first-ever UAAP crown in volleyball (but I don’t think they could have it this season if they continue playing what they were playing right now!) “CONSISTENCY” is what they need to win. That’s what I notice at the start of the season.

Alam mo yung feeling na, andun na kayo….konti na lang, you need a set to win (ADMU vs FEU) hindi nyo pa nakuha! Just yesterday, they have an opportunity to get the 3rd set in engaging with the Tigresses, yet didn’t get it and win the match. I hope they’ve learned everything on their previous heart-breaking matches (excluding vs NU and UP) and for coach Roger… he really needs to get his new UAAP team jell with each other, knowing that he’s an experienced coach when it comes to volleyball.

Ateneo is so blessed with a bunch of new rookies who are not afraid to deal with other veteran teams like UST, DLSU and FEU. They will give their all best to give a nice and good fight inside the court.

I know they can do something and to think that they’re not playing for high-school volleyball, they need to catch-up and change their playing styles because college volleyball is more fast-pace and so fun to watch (not because of cute girls dying for the ball but for the game itself lol)

I’m a fan of ADMU WVT and on the positive note… you will see these girls grab the UAAP Volleyball crown, maybe not now but for the few more years. Just remember the word “CONSISTENCY”… trust me it will help you!

just some comments (don’t make it too personal hehe):

    #12 Jamenea Ferrer
    - a rookie setter of the team (filling-up the shoes of Karla Bello), even if she’s a rookie… she do good plays, distribute the ball very well, but avoid doing some unnecessary free-balls :)

    #3 Gretchen Ho
    - I like this girl very much! So pretty andI just noticed that the saying “looks can be deceiving” is TRUE! A good-looking girl with a killer instinct inside. She could be the future captain of the team. Keep it up! :)

    #15 Fille Saints Merced Cainglet
    - I called her “cutie” hehe. Coming from St. Scholastica and led the team for 3 consecutive championships (if I’m not mistaken). I love watching her soaring-high but somehow… she’s afraid of doing some spiking damage (to KILL THE BALL!). Just like your current coach says: “MAGTIWALA KA SA SARILI MO!” :)

    #6 Angeline Gervacio
    - A girl with too much power! (how i wish Fille Cainglet can get some of her spiking power lol). You’re not playing like a rookie girl! :)

    # Bea Charmaine Pascual
    - Lapit na… mamamaster mo rin ang Quick play! hehehe being the captain of the team… lead the team always. :)

    #5 Ma. Carmina Denise Acevedo
    - The southpaw hitter, doing good this current season. Keep it up! :)

    #17 Stephanie Gabriel
    - Must practice good defensive skills. I know coach Roger can make you as a good libero (just like Mary Jane Pepito) :)

To Averil Paje, Misha Quimpo, and to other rookies (sorry, I don’t know their names actually):
    - Do your very best in every games. That’s all! :)

I hope you can make it to the Final Four for the 2nd time.

GOOD LUCK AND GO ATENEO… ONE BIG FIGHT!!

There is only one way to prove who is the best Team this season, but in my point of view and observation. FEU will give a hard fight in every team who is dreaming to be a champion. Yeah FEU took charge of winning the battle against Ateneo, Adamson and UST in 5 sets but only Tamarraw’s can defeat DLSU no matter how hard they try. Such hard evidence of showing and proving what a Champion Team is all about . Looking back last season’s where the title went to FEU while DLSU did’nt even make it to final 4.
To the Tamarraw’s proves to them that a real Champion didn’t only have a bag of strong will to win but with a baggage of determination together with an action to take charge even a 5 sets game. The number of sets did’t matter after all.

Based on my observation and watching all the Team’s performance, there is only one Team who deserve a recognition and has the right to play in an international league somehow, it would be the Tamarraw’s FEU Team not the DLSU.
    1. FEU has Morada, a versatile player who plays with determination, a strong as well a very smart player.
    2. Daquis, with her strong spike no matter how many blockers closing the bank still the ball drops on their court side.
    3. Gonzalez, who is very capable to adjust no matter how the tosser set the ball, a witty quicker and attacker.
    4. Jose, who got the first spot as the best tosser in spite of being a rookie.
Plus the fact that they are the last season’s Champion and today’s season number 1 in standing who defeated DLSU.
I am pretty much sure my observation is convincing…

DLSU won over AdU in 3 SETS 25-13, 25-21, 25-12.
DLSU 75 points, AdU 46 points!

    while

FEU won over Adamson in 4 SETS, not 3.
    27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22.
That must have been an exciting game.

UAAP Volleyball 71: La Salle whips Ateneo’s behind

The La Salle Lady Archers played a great game and crush their nemesis Ateneo Lady Eagles in five sets, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-13.

In a jam packed crowd of ovewr 600 spectators watching the game at the Arena in San Juan, the Lady Archers showed the UAAP that they can play a tough and well played down the wire game and win if they need to. The game lasted almost two hours, but spectators say it was worth watching indeed.

Ateneo played well, but alas, La Salle played exceptionally brilliant in this game.

La Salle has proven without a doubt that they have nerves of steel. Its no suprize that they can shut out teams that are bad, and win over teams that are good because they play with such passion like UST and with the same talent (or even more) than FEU.

i stand by your observation mr ricky villanueva..
as what commentators say about feu, experience ang advantage nila against dlsu. magaling tlaga ang dlsu, hats off..
but i kno feu can play better. just like what they have shown in their past games. kahit na down sila ng 2 sets, they still managed to fight back and win..
looking back last season, feu never won in any match against adamson, pero at the end, feu pa ang nagchampion. see.
i believe they can still defend their title this season! i hope so! goodluck to lady tams! kaya yan,
i have a feeling gonzalez will be this season’s mvp! if not, daquis.

that Ateneo played well in yesterday’s game is an understatement, or so I believe.. I saw how the lady eagles played with all their might and heart against a veteran and experienced team. it’s a given that DLSU should win. it’s nice to see though even veterans like La Salle get shaken by excellent rookies from the Ateneo. and only Ateneo can do that against both FEU and DLSU..

    ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

    not again?!

I watched the game last sunday, ADMU really put up a great fight but then it wasn’t quite enough to beat nonetheless… DLSU! We can still notice that ADMU can be a great threat for some veteran teams like DLSU, UST and FEU. Although you never get to be in the Final 4, you have done a great job this season even though the team was composed of several rookies!! (not just rookies but “fearless” rookies)

I bet these girls will dominate UAAP and V-League in more years to come and keep up the good work!

according to some observers, kayang kaya humabol ng FEU even bagsak sila for 2 sets. Proven na talagang champion sila kasi nakakabalik sila, and the best part is they WIN the match.

Let hope for a deja vu all over again kung san nanalo FEU kahit na malakas ang kalaban.

Well DLSU is the strongest team these season but FEU has the determination.

Well just another 5 set match drawn by ADMU with the Lady Falcons yet still a grueling loss for the Katipunan-based volleyball team. They’ve dealt with a lot of 5 set matches (but they’ve just win only one, which is vs UE in the first round of eliminations).

I was surprised on how AdU play their game. Knowing that they’re in the Final 4 and just having one remaining game to deal with the Tigresses. At their first meeting, AdU swept UST in 3 straight sets (no-sweat!) but I guess it will be a new story this coming saturday! The España-based team will dominate these Lady Falcons as in my opinion, if Falcons would play as they play with their last games, they will go down to the 4th-place and kindly give-up their game to the Tigresses. Stepping-up of their focal players like Rissa Jane Laguilles, Angela Benting and their amazing rookie Pau Soriano is what they really need to get some finals berth contention as they want to redeem themselves last season by not bringing home the bacon.

DLSU and FEU will be a great clash I bet. These 2 teams are unstoppable! It will be a down the wire game. I’d never get to watched these 2 teams collide in the first round and wondering why DLSU fails to get a “W” as they were the very tough team to beat this season. Is it because FEU have more passion and a heart to win?

  203. #203 john christian conigliaro
    on Feb 12th, 2009 at 11:06 am

it is very obvious that the dlsu spikers train very very hard, it is seen on how they jump, spike and run…if they win they deserve it more than anybody…so please stop saying that feu only has the passion and determination of winning because it is definite that the girls from dlsu have sacrificed alot. We have our own biases but i really commend the performance of DLSU as they try to put themselves in another level which is great for the sport.

FEU players wants to to catch up in every match they have which is a wrong attitude , sinuswerte lang sila sa 5th set trust me time will come na they’ll realize na competition is competition and if we want to catch up with all the other asian countries in terms of level of play , attitudes like that must be eliminated. Now thats passion and determination….

Anyway here is my elite players of this season:

    1. Best Setter – April Jose
    2. Best Attacker – Steffanie Mercado
    3. Best Blocker – Jacquiline Alarca
    4. Best libero – Melissa Gohing
    5. MVP- Steff Mercado
    6. Best Scorer – Aiza Maizo
    7. Best Server – Jaquiline Alarca

UAAP Volleyball 71: La Salle repulse UP in another shut out

“The La Salle Lady Archers beat the UP Lady Maroons in three sets, 25-11,25-12, 25-19. The Lady Archers seem to make a habit of shutting out teams with inadequate firepower.

Team leader Manilla Santos lead the Lady Archers to this easy shut-out game.

La Salle Coach Ramil De Jesus, Asst coach Noel Orcullo and the rest of the coaching staff sure knows how to motivate the La Salle team as in this game, they literally overpower UP in every department imaginable in volleyball.

Everything seems to to working well with La Salle’s team. They seem to have found the right combination to win against any team in this competition. They shut-out teams like it was just an ordinary thing for them and with their nerves of steel, they survive the pull through victories against the best of the best in the UAAP.

With the way La Salle’s hard work each and every game, I don’t think La Salle will settle for nothing less than being in the finals and winning it all. This team is like an assasin, cunning, direct, and if they can do it quickly they will (they beat UP in just an hour) this team really can’t be taken for granted. The question is, can other teams step up to the challenge?”

The Statistical Favorite: La Salle Lady Archers
Even if we admit it or not, statistics do not lie. This season, Manilla Santos and the Lady Archers are the most balanced and
most deadly team on paper. They have power, experience and speed. The best spiker in the league is from their team, none other than Jaqueline Alarca. Other coaches would probably secretly leave their team just to have the chance to coach the Lady Archers. After all, it just seems that the coach just has to sit down and let the girls play and more often than not, they win. And not just win, they shut-out teams. They don’t care if you are a good or bad team, if they can shut you out in three sets, they will. They are killers and are dead set on winning.

On defense, two DLSU players are on the top 5 in terms of blocking, Jaqueline Alarca and Charleen Abigail Cruz. Another Lady Archer, Michelle Datuin, is No. 8 in blocking overall as well. In terms if serves, Jaqueline Alarca is second in the league. La Salle Setter Ma. Klarissa Martinez is 4th in the league as well. Meanwhile Melissa Gohing is 7th in the league in digs and 4th in the league as a receiver.

As a team, La Salle is No. 1 in terms of spikes with a success rate of 34.51%

The La Salle team is also second in the league in blocking as well as in serving.

Probable weakness: statistically, the only chink in their armour is in terms of digs. other than that, they are a lean mean green volleyball machine.

Im a big fan of the 71st UAAP womens volleyball. My opinions:
DLSU: Magaling ang players..and they are deserving to be the top blocking team of the season.
FEU: Hindi naman talaga sila magaling but they have the best teamwork. At the same time takot sila sa coach un ang nagpapanalo sa kanila.
ADU: Magaling sila according to its defense. Kaya lang pag malakas kalaban malakas din pero pag mahina ang lamya din ng laro nila..Yan ang dapat i adjust.
UST: Kaya nilang talunin kahit DLSU or FEU..in fact sa first round they beat FEU at muntik muntikan na rin sa second round..the problem is kulang sila sa teamwork.
ATENEO: Magaling ung setter (FERRER)..kaya din nila kaso mahirap pag isa lang ang nagtatrabaho.
UE: Magaling sila kaya rin nila makipag laro sa kalaban..lalo na ung laglagan. Kaya lang most error nila ung hit always below the net. At the same time ung coach di marunong.
UP: Nagustuhan ko ung spirit nila na sa second round ibang UP na sila. Kaso more practice pa..
NU: May teamwork sila ang problema lang di masyadong gumagalaw.

    Quoted from UST.NET

“DLSU clinches the number 1 seed in the Final Four of the UAAP Women’s VB Tournament, beating FEU in 4 sets, this makes the playoff game between UST and Adamson on Wednesday interesting since both teams want to face FEU in the semis, so the Tigresses and Lady Falcons will try to get the much needed win to earn the right of facing FEU in the semis

UAAP Volleyball 71: UST overwhelm Adamson

“Expect an all out battle for the 3rd spot in the standings when these two meet again in a few days. Both Coaches won’t hold anything back anymore and will play for all the marbles. After all, both teams want to win 3rd in anticipation that, and this is just speculation, that La Salle will be first and FEU will be second.

Because in the next round, whoever is 4th, might end up facing La Salle in the 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd scenario,

And both Adamson and UST feel they have what it takes to beat FEU. Of course, not if Rachel Ann Daquis and the FEU team has something to say about it.”

The Final 4 cast has been decided (except for the 3rd and the 4th spot which will be decided this coming wednesday). DLSU being in the top of the pack after beating Lady Tams in 4 sets! By that, they’re now the team to beat this season… however FEU, AdU and UST in still in contention but then these teams are beaten by DLSU. These girls are so relentless, resilient, by the way they play, showing some consistency and working as a team. Obviously showing some dominance! There’s only one word could describe them; “WOW!”

    La Salle Gets Top Seeding

“With FEU and La Salle fighting for supremacy, it was an all out war. One team was good, but one team was great.

It was a classic battle. The Battle of the Titans, with two of the top teams in the UAAP fighting for the top spot in the ongoing UAAP Women’s volleyball tournament in front of a very electrifying crowd of over 3,500 screaming and crazy volleyball fanatics inside the Arena in San Juan.

La Salle reigns supreme as they beat FEU for top spot in four sets, 25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 25-18.

FEU came into this fight as the defending champions. Fighting for school pride and honor, FEU fought and tried and gave it their all. But as the song goes, ‘they did their best, but I guess, their best wasn’t good enough’.

La Salle, led by charismatic leader Manilla Santos was focused on only one goal. Beat the crap out of FEU, and to a large extent, they did that.

FEU has nothing to be ashamed of. They fought and really gave their all. I could feel they were very tense all game long and felt intimidated by La Salle’s defense that was not only good, it was a very suffocating defensive effort.

The offensive blocking of La Salle will truly bring nightmares to the next team they will face, either UST or Adamson. The back liners of La Salle also did well today and they truly came prepared for this game.

Team Leader Manilla Santos led the way for La Salle in this 4 set victory and she got a lot of help from other La Salle superstars like Jaqueline Alarca, Stephanie Mercado, and Charleen Abigail Cruz.

On the FEU side, Cherry May Vivas led the offense for FEU along with team leader Rachel Anne Daquis and Shaira Gonzales. I could feel that Rachel Ann Daquis tried her best to motivate FEU to rally even when it seems La Salle was in total control. But FEU had a lot of mistakes and even service errors that you can’t do to a great team like La Salle.

Manilla Santos came prepared for this game as she and Stephanie Mercado was simply unstoppable on spiking the ball against the insufficient defense of FEU led by Cherry May Vivas and Rachel Anne Daquis.

Digs was certainly a factor for this game as Charleen Abigail Cruz had 22 digs for the game along with Melissa Gohing with 9. It was simply no comparison compared to the 9 digs of Rose Anne Taganas and the 7 digs of Shaira Gonzales for FEU.

On the battle of the setters, La Salle’s Ma. Klarissa Martinez was superb and was more effective against April Jose Linor of FEU.

As La Salle is now No. 1, it will be more exciting to watch the battle for the 3rd and 4th seeding battle between UST and Adamson because they both need to win in order to match up with FEU.

The loser of the tussle between UST and Adamson will have to face La Salle and both teams don’t want that.”

La Salle is a strong player no doubt about it and it showed the way they’ve beaten up FEU last Sunday, and maybe yes, they are on the top on the standing so far. But it will not end up the way they wanted it to happen. FEU is a Champion Team and they have proven it and still proving it. I got a chance of watching live the battle of FEU and DLSU last Sunday and i admit i was disappointed the way FEU player’s performance. The problem was there is no receive, no blood running to dwell with each other to execute the game, the powers is not there either. I was just afraid that if they continue to play the same thing, it would be clear that DLSU will rule the court and the the 71 Season which i strongly believe FEU deserves.

Girls just focus, fight with confidence. It doesn’t matter how tall DLSU player’s are, that’s all they have. But the athleticism and the versatility to go over the battle are with you girls. All of us here supports and believes in you…

I must say Lasalle did their homework superbly, especially in defense.. hands off..

the reasons why they won is that they really shut out Shaira Gonzales completely, demoralized Morada, frustrated Daquis and Wowed April Jose, it was just Cherry Mae Vivas who had a 80% game play.

I’m guessing whoever faces FEU on the semis will win.

    ADAMSON VS UST/UST VS ADAMSON:

    THE PLAYOFF PRIMER

Its a game that no one should miss. I expect a massive crowd on when these two square off. After all, they are both great teams that want to win. Around over 3,000 people will probably go to the Arena to watch these two teams fight for the 3rd seed slot of the top 4 in the UAAP 71st Women’s Volleyball.

Had FEU won, there might have been reason for Adamson and UST to lose the playoff game. You see in the top four format, No. 1 team faces No. 4 and No. 2 team faces No. 3. So had FEU won 1st seed, UST and Adamson could choose their fate, because in order to fight FEU then, they would have to lose the playoff to get No. 4 seed and thus slug it out with FEU. But that is not the case anymore.

As expected, La Salle won and FEU is now the No. 2 seeded team. And now, UST and AdU have to win their playoff game for them to avoid facing La Salle.

The winner of the playoff game between UST and Adamson gets to meet FEU. Not that FEU is an easier team to beat. So in all fairness to FEU, it means that Adamson and UST would rather face-off with them than with a super team like La Salle. But it also doesn’t mean they will beat FEU, because UST and Adamson would have to prove themselves to be better teams to defeat their opponents.

For the coaching staff, Motherly Coach Minerva Dulce Pante must know when to quench rallies of UST. She must teach her players that they can feed off each other but not fuel the emotions of UST. She must tell her team that the crowd will be pre-dominantly pro-UST. And they must stay focused on winning the game and not be distracted by the sideshows at the Arena.

    ADAMSON

Adamson is a solid team. Scoring wise, there is truly one superstar in Adamson and her name is Angela Benting, the no. 2 ranked scorer, no. 3 ranked server, no. 5 best digger, and no. 6th spiker in the UAAP Season 71. Another great thing going for Adamson in their next game goes by the name Paulina Soriano, this woman is ranked no. 3 in terms of spiking and no. 7 in terms of blocking.

Adamson is a great team with a stellar history. They must surprise UST with something to keep them off their game. If they can do that, Adamson will face FEU in the next round. Otherwise, they face a monster team in La Salle.

    UST

UST is a team with a history unlike no other. Their winning tradition goes back the days of the Spaniards.

The good news. Aiza Maizo is healthy. Yup. The monster superstar of UST is healthy and I think 100%. Aiza Maizo alone had 202 spikes so far., she isn’t the top scorer of the league for nothing. She is probably one player, that if she gets her sweet spot and the ball is in the air, you better just pretend to go after the ball because, really, its as good as a point.

The UST leader in blocking? Yup. Aiza Maizo. Who else? remember what I said, she is a monster star. Not a superstar, a monster star. Hannah Mance is 9th in blocking as well. These defensive duo is the twin towers of UST, Maizo is 5′10 and Mance is 5′11″.

For Coach Cesael Delos Santos, he must know when to stop momentum and he must know when to call time-outs. I know he wants the UST team to communicate on their own, but if he sees its not working, its his duty to facilitate communication.

UST must block and block effectively. Show Adamson that height is might and that they deserve to be the no. 3 team in the UAAP.

    Advice to UST:

Play like there is no tomorrow. Because if you lose this game, La Salle will be without mercy. If UST wins this game, you have a psychological advantage against FEU because you beat them before and they are coming off a loss against La Salle. Muster your emotions and let them rule your game to your advantage. Feed off the energy of the crowd and don’t let your fans (specially the Tiger pack) down. If they believe, so must you.

    Advice to Adamson:

Show UST what you are made off. You are without a doubt a team who can give FEU a run for their money in terms of skill having to be No. 1 in three departments (digging, setting, receiving) in the league. You have a slim chance to beat La Salle but may be better off to fight FEU who has a tendency to give up if the score balloons to a big margin as shown in their game against Adamson. Play smart and methodical and not let emotions run wild.

UST Shuts-Out AdU in 3 Sets.

“Three days ago before this playoff game, PSEP predicted in the article (If you’re a UAAP fan and havent read it yet, shame on you. hehe) “UAAP Volleyball 71 Playoff Primer: UST vs Adamson ” that whoever won the first set would probably win the game, and we were right on the money. It was probably one of the most exciting games this season. It was only a battle for the right to be the third seed in the top four of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament but it was fought as if it was already a finals game.

It was also a tactical victory for UST Coach Cesael Delos Santos and Asst Coach Norman Miguel as they were right on the money in almost everything they did. They knew when to call time-outs to stop rallies of Adamson and they knew what to say to motivate the UST team and finish off the Lady Falcons.

After this game, the Lady Tigers has made a serious statement against FEU whom they will face in the next game/s. UST has tasted blood and theynow have what it takes to shut-out a great team like Adamson. And if they can do that to Adamson, they statistically could do it against another tough team like FEU.

It was such a sweet victory for UST. The UST team will have a very enormous psychological avantage against FEU. First because they are coming off this big clear cut victory and second because they have already defeated FEU this season. If they did it once, they could statistically do it again. And that is what the thousands of fans and tiger pack is waiting to see come next game day.

Adamson is left to face powerhouse La Salle in the other pairing bracket which has the No. 1 team La Salle squaring off against the No. 4 team Adamson while the No. 2 team FEU Lady Tams faces the No. 3 raging UST Lady Tigers.

This will be an exciting match up. Adamson would have wanted to face FEU because they can match up better with FEU in terms of speed and heft but since that is not the case anymore, Adamson’s coaching staff will have to find some way to pull a rabbit out of their hat to win against La Salle who is well rested and mentally prepared to take on either UST or Adamson.

On the other match-up, the FEU Lady Tams which came off a devastating and demoralizing loss against La Salle will have to face the very emotional and adrenalin pumped UST Lady Tigers squad. The Lady Tigers hasproven that they can shut-out good teams and they have what it takes to win close games.

Get ready for the next few games because its going to be an all out vollyball armageddon with only the strongest will be left standing. ”

La Salle in UAAP Women’s Volleyball Finals

After two seasons, La Salle is back from where they belong this decade, the finals.

The Lady Archers unleashed their offensive might in the fourth set to oust Adamson, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, and clinch the first championship slot in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the The Arena, San Juan.

Stephanie Mercado uncorked 17 hits while Jacq Alarca and Michelle Datuin added 15 and 13 markers respectively to help La Salle in making a return trip to the finals.

The Lady Archers’ last appearance to the finals was in the 2005-06 season when they completed a ‘three-peat’ in a star-studded line-up bannered by Maureen Penetrante, Desiree Hernandez and Chie Saet.

In the best-of-three finals, La Salle will face the winner of the much-anticipated “Final Four” match-up today between defending champion Far Eastern University and third-ranked University of Santo Tomas.

The duel between the Lady Tamaraws and Tigresses, two of the winningest women’s volleyball squads in the league, is set at 4 p.m.

“Hindi ko nagustuhan ang laro ng mga bata, kailangang may ma-improve sa laro ng mga bata pagdating sa finals, whether FEU o UST ang kalaban namin, dapat paghandaan namin nang husto,” said Lady Archers mentor Ramil de Jesus.

Angela Benting scored 18 kills while Jill Gustilo added 16 markers for the Lady Falcons.

After La Salle took the third frame via an outside hit by Adamson rookie Pau Soriano which served as the set point, the Taft-based spikers could not stop in connecting their attacks at the net.

The Lady Archers raced to a 10-1 advantage before the Lady Falcons moved closer to 7-10 courtesy of a Kaye Martinez error.

But this was the best that Adamson could reach, as Michelle Datuin starred in another La Salle onslaught to erect a 19-9 spread and never looked back.

    ——–

In the Men’s division, La Salle faces UP today in their Final Four matchup for the right to meet UST in the Finals. The Green Spikers enjoy a twice to beat advantage in this series.

    La Salle: The Powerhouse team

Winning is like a drug. You can’t get enough of it. To a certain degree, it is already some sort of tradition or expectation for La Salle to do good in this tournament and this year is no different. La Salle this year has been in tip top form.

Players like Jaqueline Alarca and Stephanie Mercado has truly proven the UAAP that they are the real deal in terms of being almost a well-rounded volleyball player. In fac, both these two players are no. 6 and no. 7 respectively on scoring in the UAAP this season.

La Salle is a very tactical team as well, La Salle coach Ramil De JEsus and Asst. Noel Orcullo are masterminds in knowing when to stop momentums of other teams and almost know what to say everytime to bring out the best in their team.

In volleyball, you need leaders on the court. People who can see the situation, assess what is happening and execute a strategy that sometimes will have to change as you play. Manilla Santos is such a player. A leader on the court that always has her thinking cap on at all times. That is why the La Salle coaching staff looks so great, its because Manilla is a player that absorbs what their coach tells them and can derive and knows how to execute the strategy on the court. Because in reality, the coaches can only tell you what to do but its the players who really execute the gameplan. And if that gameplan or strategy is figured out by the other team, its the leaders on the court like Manilla Santos, who create sub-strategies or derivations so that the team can still pull out the win.

Other La Salle players like Charleen Abigail Cruz, Camille Cerveza, Ma. Klarissa Martinez, Celine Hernandez, Emeli Loraine Zuno, and Melissa Gohing has been consistent for La Salle and has truly made the team very deep and very strong not only in terms of physical preparation, but it clearly shows that La Salle has that mental edge over teams with a nearly spotless record. And the fact that their loss came from the FEU team that might get surprised by UST in this round.

In the spiking department, one of the most consistent in the league has been La Salle’s Jaqueline Alarca with her picture perfect spikes. In fact, Alarca is the no. 3 best spiker in the league. Stephanie Mercado is not far behind as the no. 6 best spiker in the league. As a team, La Salle Lady Archers are the best in the league in spikes. There is no team in the UAAP that has more spikes than La Salle. They also have the nighest success percentage at 34.32%

On defense, the dynamic duo of Jaqueline Alarca and Charleen Abigail Cruz are one of the most dependable in the league today. They are the no. 2 and no. 3 blockers in the UAAP. They are two players that are superstars on defense. La Salle is also a league leader in blocking. There is no team in the UAAP that has more kill blocks than La Salle.

Jaqueline Alarca is also a top player in serves being the no. 2 in the league in this department, Manilla Sanos is no.6 and Charleen Abigail Cruz is no. 7 in the UAAP as other top servers. As a team, La Salle is the no. 2 in the league in terms of serving. They have had 73 service aces so far.

In UAAP digging, Melissa Gohing and Stephanie Mercado are no. 7 and no. 8 in this department. While Ma. Klarissa Martinez is the no. 4 best setter in the league. La Salle as a team also is the no. 3 team in terms of digging. The team has had 434 digs so far.

Melissa Gohing is also the no. 2 best receiver while Manilla Santos is the no. 3 best receiver in the UAAP.

La Salle is also the 4th best setting team in the UAAP with 6854 running sets so far and the Lady Archers is the no. 2 team in terms of receiving the volleyball.

La Salle is truly a great team on paper and when you see them play on the court. They can shut-out teams and they can also comeback from behind to win games. Hey have many leaders on the team and they execute their plays with pinpoint precision. La Salle also has a twice to beat advantage over their opponent. Seems like everything is in La Salle’s favor thus far.

I expect game one to be an exciting game. In fact, I expect the first two sets to be an indicator of the series. If La Salle continues to play the way they have played so far, its virtually impossible for them to be defeated.

La Salle wins UAAP Men’s Tennis Title

La Salle completed its mastery over University of Santo Tomas by scoring a 4-1 win to capture the 71st UAAP men’s tennis title Friday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Led by co-Most Valuable Players PJ Tierro and Irwin de Guzman, the Green Archers overpowered their rivals to sweep their best-of-three title series.

It was La Salle’s first championship since 2006. This time, however, the championship was much sweeter.

The Tigers were just a win away from winning the title via an eight-game sweep. But Tierro, a Davis Cup veteran, and company beat them in the final day of the elims to force a best-of-three championship.

It was a huge disappointment for the España-based netters as they blew away the opportunity of scoring a three-peat. That also denied them of scoring a rare double sweep of the tournament after its women counterparts bagged the title last week.

Tierro, the country’s top-ranked netter, combined with Jandrick de Castro in edging out Gerald Pinili and Roman Floreza, 6-0, 6-1, in the second doubles match while de Guzman trounced Michael Narvaez, 6-0, 6-3, in the first singles match.

Also winning for the Archers were John Will Baldonado who beat Raymund Villarete, 6-4, 5-7, 2-0 (ret) while Michael Basco won over Keane Barraquias, 6-1, 7-5, in the third singles affair.

Wilbur Orillano and Alexander Diego prevented an embarrassing shutout loss for UST as they beat David Alexander de Koenigswarter and Isaac Sabas, 6-4, 6-3, in the first doubles match.

PSEP’s UAAP 71 Volleyball Finals Preview: La Salle Lady Archers

The Lady Archers won’t settle for anything less than being this year’s champions.

The determination and talent of La Salle this season is so loaded. I am looking at their team line-up along with team statistics and its simply amazing. Its like you if you take any two players on their team and they might still have a chance of being on the finals.

Let’s start from the coaching, the La Salle coaching staff is simply great. Coach Ramil De Jesus is not only a good motivator, he is also like a godfather figure to the La Salle team. If Adamson has coach ‘mother’ Minerva Dulce Pante, La Salle has godfather Ramil De Jesus.

La Salle has a deep bench this season and they have great second stringers as well. Its no wonder La Salle is doing great, the coach can rest any tow players at a time and still get good results.

On offense, La Salle has three superstars, Stephanie Mercado, Jaqueline Alarca and of course, Manilla Santos. These three players alone can scare any team from enterting the playing court. The combined spiking power from these three is enough to bring migraines on the coaching staff of the opposing team and bring nightmares to the other team’s defense.

On blocking, La Salle defensive specialists like Michelle Datuin and Charleen Abigail Cruz keeps any opposing team at bay. The La Salle team isnt as tall as UST, but their players probably have the highest vertical leaps I have ever seen in the UAAP. And the result is they make great saves and blocks.

Volleyball isn’t just about scoring, its also about hustle. La Salle is no stranger to hustle. Players like the full of energy Melissa Gohing, Charleen Abigail Cruz and Manilla Santos keep opponents from scoring with their great digs and saves. What I like about La Salle is that they will not give up even on a single point or set if they can save it or prevent it from happening. Statistically speaking, they are the third best digging team on the UAAP better than UST or FEU.

One of the reasons they are seemingly unbeatable is because of their tenacity. Their relentlessness that is frankly simply because of La Salle’s fighting spirit. That is one reason they are in the finals.

As a team, they have had 635 spikes thus far making them no. 1 in this department, better than UST or Adamson combined with a percentage of 34.72%

La Salle is also the no. 1 team in blocking with 137 kill blocks. More than UST, FEU or Adamson. They average 3 good blocks per set, higher than any team in the UAAP.

This team is also the second best server as a team in the league with 77 aces so far.

The La Salle setter, Ma. Klarissa Martinez is one of the League’s reliable setters. She may not be the no. 1 setter, but she gets the job done. And La Salle is one scrappy and relentless team. I am not surprised they are in the finals. Frankly, they deserve to be. As a team, La Salle is the fourth best setting team better than Ateneo or UE. They are also the second best receiving team in the UAAP with 296 excellent receptions that is better than FEU, UST or Ateneo.

Can FEU beat La Salle? Yes and No. Yes probably because La Salle is stilla team that is still subject to errors / mistakes, an off day and bad games, and No because La Salle is a seasoned team that will not let an opportunity like the finals pass them by. FEU will be to hell and back if they are to defeat La Salle this year. One thing is for sure, they are not the underdogs this season.

Awwwww! That was a very hard fought game between the defending champs and the #1 seed team, but then Lady Tams prove that their conquest for the back-to-back championship is still on track. Couldn’t believe that DLSU ain’t playing the same way as they we’re playing in the eliminations. They are lack of communication, aggressiveness, and the heart to win! However, this team is killed by their own mistakes(unforced errors!). This is my first time to watch a DLSU game where there is agony, they do not dictate the pace of the game as what they are doing in their last games.

On the other hand, FEU is somehow find their way to defeat the #1 team… this time they were the ones who’s controlling the game’s tempo and their go-to players stepped-up to get a win over the Green spikers. How can you imagine if Daquis, Gonzalez, and Morada will step-up?! What a big problem it will give to La Salle! Hope Shaira will be playing this coming wednesday :)

I will go for the Lady Tams to be the season 71 champs! but everyone knows… “babawi ang LA SALLE!”. This team is hungry for the title and so… expect a action-pack wednesday affair between these two teams.

I’m a big fan of lasalle and Im from DLSU so Im really a biased fan and if the DLSU SPIKERS want to win, dapat hindi sila matakot manalo. It felt na they were playing 55% of their game. The worst game ever Ive seen them play. I know believe that experience may come as a big factor specially in big games.

All spikes from dlsu were very weak.It was just Michelle Datuin who showed heart and all others were in a dilly dally mode.

    Ok enough of the past.

On wednesday what DLSU must do is spike with conviction,do the same old good receive and most importantly is be humble. Kahit na si Morada ay puro trash talk, just play your game which is in reality very STRONG.

Adivse for FEU, keep up their strategy and I know you are a champion team and a very experienced at that but let’s see if there is someone more deserving this time.

    FEARLESS FORECAST

If FEU wins the 2nd set on Wednesday, FEU will be champions
If DLSU wins on Wednesday, they will win the championship

Wednesday is coming… tension is building up slowly, as the game 2 is near to happen. Will it be a great ending for Rachel Ann Daquis and a sorry exit for Manilla Santos OR will the Lady Archers will put some pressure and extend it to Game 3?

    For FEU
    - This team is so resilient, although they start too slow but they are good finishers. I don’t want to say this team is so “LUCKY” when it comes in 5 sets duel… proving that they have the heart to win that’s why they emerge winners. Not having some tall player line-up, but they’re blessed with some very athletic players. Seeking for their 30th volleyball title in UAAP.

    KEYS TO WIN:
    - Triumvirate must work; Daquis, Morada and Gonzales (add some Cherry Vivas on the top of the ice cream) hehe…
    - Distribute the ball well, rely on quick-plays for Morada and Gonzales.
    - Control the game’s tempo! Don’t let DLSU dictate the course of the game… trust me, it will be hard for you.
    - DEFENSE! DEFENSE! Consistent blocking and floor defense. It will make you bring the bacon!
    - Demoralize DLSU. OK lang naman trash talking… wag lang sosobra! hehehe… it add some sour to a tightly contested ball game.

    For DLSU
    - Packed by tall and talented ladies who really prove themselves and got numerous volleyball titles. No doubt at the first round of the eliminations, they were the team to beat this season. Almost quite to finish the season with an unblemished record. Good communication, teamwork, spiking, ball distribution and commit less errors (a perfect team actually). I don’t think any weak points of this team… but I found out that pag demoralize sila, dun sila natatalo! A well balanced team… start and finishes the game on a high note.

    KEYS TO WIN:
    - Focus on the game. Don’t let FEU screw you or you will lose the game. Less errors and very good defense will force the 3rd and deciding game. Game 1 is over and just go on!
    - Where’s Melissa Gohing?! I can’t feel her presence inside the court. Anyway, she must step-up! DLSU needs her defensive skills.
    - Bring back the team spirit. Captains must lead the way!
    - Always aim to kill the ball. You are a team with many spiking guns to choose from. Martinez must distribute the ball very well and try to fake FEU blockers consistently so that her spikers can kill the ball rather than dumping it.
    - The important is “COMMUNICATION”. Salita, usap lang sa loob ng court so it will bring you “COOPERATION”.

I am on the FEU side… but then I don’t want to finish the season fast lol. Let see how the Lady Archers react on good playing strategy being shown by FEU. Mas masaya kung may game 3! Sino ba naman ayaw nun di ba?! Pero sa tingin ko… maninigurado na ang FEU, they will never allow DLSU to win and get on track baka madale pa sila haha…

UAAP Volleyball 71: La Salle not afraid of FEU and wins game 2

The Lady Archers shoot down and frustrate the Lady Tamaraws in 4 hard fought sets.

FEU really did its best, with Coach Nestor Pamilar even putting injured player Shaira Gonzalez in the game for morale boosting effect, but alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. FEU despite the great effort and heroic effort loses to La Salle in four sets.

The official score of game 2 of the finals was 17-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18. FEU wins the first set of game 2 then La Salle shut them out in the next three sets.

La Salle Lady Archers demoralize FEU Lady Tamaraws once more and showed them why their team lost only once at the end of two rounds of UAAP Volleyball this season. It was like the La Salle team just needed to get a jolt and a wake up call in game 1 that once again awakened their killer insticnt.

Inspirational and team leader Manilla Santos was like a player out for blood as she was instrumental for creating volleyball migranes for the FEU coaching staff this game day with her spikes and other creative shots that made the defense dizzy and on their toes.

Jaqueline Alarca, Stephanie Mercado, Charleen Abigail Cruz and the rest of the La Salle team played with no fear and didn’t back down even when FEU seemed to close in the third and fourth sets. When FEU was all energized for their ‘comeback’ in the third and fourth sets, La Salle stared them right in their faces and showed them who was tougher. What demoralized FEU players even further was that La Salle’s defense was very stubborn once more.

This time around, Rachel Anne Daquis and her spikes seemed a step too slow and wasn’t able to get past the suffocating La Salle defense. She nonetheless gave it her all and at one point in the fourth quarter, tried to rally a morale boosting shout for FEU’s players but it was still not enough to motivate the team to victory.

FEU played with a lot of heart and it showed, but alas, your heart will carry players up to a certain point, then you will have to rely on raw talent and ability that is bound to take over, and that is what La Salle capitalized on.

On offense, La Salle relied to La Salle’s lead archer Manilla Santos together with Stephanie Mercado, and Jaqueline Alarca. It proved to be successful as FEU’s defense anchored on players like Rachel Anne Daquis and Cherry May Vivas seemed to be a step too slow today.

FEU on the other hand had a struggling offense without a healthy Shaira Gonzalez in the rotation, but Mecaila Irish May Morada and Rachel Ann Daquis tried their hardest to get a victory, but it just wasn’t their day.

On defense, La Salle’s Michelle Datuin had 5 blocks and Charleen Abigail Cruz had 5 blocks and made sure the FEU bled for their points. I can’t shake off the ’staredown’ whenever Morada is blocked by Mitch. I felt this game became personal for some of the La Salle players who wanted to prove a point to FEU.

Digging was a major part of today’s game with Stephanie Mercado had 16 digs while Manilla Santos had 14 digs as they both were getting the lion’s share of digs for La Salle.

It was evident both teams tried their best, and both prepared for this game, it was just La Salle was better today.

On the battle of the setters, it was fairly even for both teams and wasn’t much of a factor, probably because La Salle’s defense was in hyperdrive. FEU’s April Linor Jose had 62 sets and La Salle’s Ma. Klarissa Martinez had 63 good sets. Both were neck to neck in their sets for this game.

After game three, only one team will be declared champion of Women’s Volleyball for Season 71 of the UAAP. Who will it be? Your guess is as good as mine. as its back to square one for both teams. Whoever wins, you can be sure that the Arena will be jam packed on the next game day.

You probably can’t wait for Game 3 of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Championship between the defending champions FEU and challenger and current UAAP league leader DLSU. The game is on Sunday, March 8 at 2pm in the Arena. You better be there to support your team, may the best team win.

I don’t know if you saw this but after the game Stephanie Mercado talked to Shaira Gonzalez and asked her if she was ok then hugged her. Its a very nice gesture from Steph who may face-off with FEU on the volleyball court but knows its just a game and showed genuine concern for Shaira’s welfare off the court.

UAAP Women’s Volleyball Finals: Lady Spikers force Game 3

    From gmanews.tv

The women’s volleyball champion for University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 71 will be known on Sunday after La Salle forced a deciding Game Three.

Jacqueline Alarca and Stephanie Mercado scored 16 and 15 points each as the Lady Archers beat the defending champions Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 17-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18, Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Game Three of the finals will be played Sunday at 2:00 p.m. also at The Arena.

“Naging less pressured sila. Naka-gain sila ng experience noong Game One kasi most of my players, first time naglaro sa finals. Alam na nila kung paano maglaro sa finals (The players are less pressured. They already gained the experience during Game One since most of my players are first time playing in the finals. Now they know how to play in the finals),” said La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus.

The Lady Archers, who lost a five-setter to the Lady Tams in the opener, worked their way to victory on defense outscoring the Lady Tamaraws, 16-6, on blocks.

La Salle also neutralized Shaira Gonzales, who only had five points in the match.

Rachel Anne Daquis scored 22 points while Mecaila Morada added 19 for the Lady Tamaraws but sputtered after winning the first set.

Cherry May Vivas also contributed 11 points for the Lady Tamaraws.

The Lady Tamaraws had a 14-13 edge but a 4-0 run gave the Lady Archers the advantage to take the third set.

La Salle built a large lead after a 15-3 blast in the fourth including a pair of 6-0 and 7-1 runs in that stretch to enjoy a 20-8 spread.

FEU managed to chip away the deficit with six straight points but La Salle’s advantage was too much to overcome.

Charleen Cruz had 11 points, Manilla Santos had nine and Michelle Datuin had eight markers for the Lady Archers. – GMANews.TV

Almost 15 hours before the final judgment is about to unfold and only one team will emerge as winner or champs! The championship contention is heating-up… heart matters most, burning passion is in the eyes of these tough ladies. This battle is like the first team to blink will lose the game and have their somehow doubt forever.

I’m glad that I witnessed the replay of the Game 2 of the finals (unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to watch it live or on TV)… but it’s good to see that even though La Salle take that crucial game 2, FEU’s game is still resilient nonetheless not quite to finish the season and take the crown back again to Morayta.

Pasalamat ang La Salle na-injure si Shaira! hehehehe

I think if Shaira is in good-shape… wala na siguradong Game 3. Hopefully she can play tomorrow very fine and focused. Daquis and Morada need to do some more damage, Shaira as well.

“A Battle Back To Square One”
    “FEU or DLSU?”

For sure it will be the greatest clash of the toughest volleybelles. 2 teams heed the call but only “one” will be victorious!

Congrats to the DLSU Lady Spikers. You really deserve to win the crown and you prove that you are the team to beat this recent UAAP season :) .For the Lady Tams, there’s nothing to be ashamed of… you give your best and your heart to win but not quite to infiltrate the the walled-defense of DLSU.

Looking forward to see a new FEU team next season even without the heart and soul of the team; Rachel Ann Daquis. On the other hand, Manilla Santos and Michelle Datuin will depart the DLSU team… but still a strong team to emerge next season bannered by Jacqueline Alarca, Stephanie Mercado, Charleen Cruz and Klarissa Martinez. For UST, I’m looking forward to see Angeli Tabaquero play for the next season and for sure… ADMU Lady Eagles will be a threat for the 7 teams in the UAAP. If I’m not mistaken, they will going to Thailand to practice and preparing for the V-League this year.

Lady Archers hit the bulls eye against Lady Tamaraws. Teary-eyed Manilla Santos is UAAP Season 71 MVP.

Pop the champagne and celebrate La Salle fan because today is your day. It was pandemonium in the Arena with over 5,000 people watching to witness the La Salle Lady Archers, the team who had only one loss after two rounds in the UAAP, win another crown in the UAAP.

La Salle convincingly overpower the Far Eastern University with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, win at the packed The Arena in San Juan, winning the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball crown for the first time in three years.

The Lady Archers led and relied on team captain Manilla Santos in capturing the team’s fifth title in the league and a first since the 2005-2006 season. It was a sweet victory at the expense of the FEU Lady Tamaraws who really wanted to win but apparently just wasn’t good enough.

“Maganda ang galaw ng mga players. Relax lang sila kasi kailangan nilang mailabas ang tunay nilang laro,” said De La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.

The La Salle coach felt their girls could win it all after they tied the series last game day. The coaching staff really prepared for this game and La Salle delivered and executed perfectly.

Manilla , who played her final game as a collegiate player, had 16 points including three straight in a pivotal 5-1 finish to dethrone last year’s titlists Lady Tamaraws.

“Sobrang saya ng feeling dahil last year ko na ito at team captain pa ako. Naging malaki ang responsibility ko sa team,” said the 24-year-old graduating student from La Salle.

Fans screamed their lungs off as Santos scored on an attack and was followed by a block off FEU’s Mecaila Morada in the fourth set. She scored again when her tap in front of the net was checked by FEU before going out of bounds for a 24-21 edge.

FEU actually had a chance to extend the game but FEU’s Cherry May Vivas had her spike enbd up very wide, giving the Lady Archers the crown. It seemed her error cost FEU the game, although she did try her best.

Jacqueline Alarca contributed a team-high 19 points as Stephanie Mercado added in 17 for the Lady Archers. Charleen Cruz had 13 points.

Morada pumped in 18 points as Vivas added 14 points for the Lady Tamaraws, who were foiled to win their 30th title in the league.

Gonzales had 13 points while Rachel Daquis chipped in 11 for the Lady Tamaraws.

The Lady Tamaraws built a 14-7 lead on six straight markers by Daquis and setter April Jose leading to a second set win.

But the Lady Archers bounced back as Mercado scored three straight points on a 5-0 run to take a 20-14 advantage in the third set.

La Salle took a 12-8 advantage in the fourth set but FEU went on to tie the game at 20 on a La Salle net violation before Santos saved the game for the Lady Archers.

Defense won the game for La Salle. It was one factor that spelled the difference. La Salle scored on more blocks against FEU, 13-6.

The UAAP championship was a fitting parting gift for Manilla Santos who is graduating from the team this year. Manilla has won an individual award as well. In contrast, the back to back hopes of another graduating student, UAAP’s volleyball goddess Rachel Ann Daquis was literally crushed. And eventhough Rachel Ann Daquis did not win any individual award or won the UAAP title this year, she has every reason to hold her head up high because she is a fighter till the end. It was a well fought series, down the wire and very exciting.

We hope next year will be as exciting. For now, I can’t wait for the Shakey’s V-League that will start in April.

Okay na siya nun, I mean, hello, tama ka, hindi naman siya napilay, it was just a SPRAIN. OA nman kung di pa siya okay nun. Having said that, she was neutralized tlaga kc 5 POINTS even if she was okay? tsk. Oh, 1 week after, GAME 3, she only scored 13 Points. Okay na Okay na siya nun dba?

Last year, coming out of suspension, we placed a miserable 5th place in the Over-all Championship Standings as our teams felt the loss of recruitment during the 2006-07 season. This year, our teams have done what they could to make do with what we have and now we are at No.2.

This is truly a cause for celebration for the entire DLSU community!!! Our vindication from Season 69 CONTINUES!!!
