I was recently with my second-cousins Kimberly and Beljo and some friends on what turned out to be a semi-food trip in Greenbelt, Makati. First up was our lunch in Capricciosa, then dessert in Classic Confections, then dinner in Cyma.
This dessert place started out selling baked treats in bazaars, but now, its owner, Baba Ibazeta-Benedicto, settled in Greenbelt 5, where dessert lovers may enjoy their wonderfully concocted cakes and pastries.
I asked about their best-seller, and they said it’s Nono’s Chocolate Oblivion (Php 175). Immediately after my first bite, I fell in love with two-layers of chocolate cake filled with whipped chocolate cream and walnut praline bits. They say that this is one of Manila’s Top 10 desserts. I can imagine why they claim so.
The Rum Cake (Php 125) also didn’t disappoint. The light butter cake soaked in rum with bits of walnut was also a treat you shouldn’t miss.
Although I really liked the Chocolate Oblivion, the Double Chocolate Mousse (Php 165) with two layers of chocolate cake with milk and white chocolate mousse and dark chocolate band is also great. (As cliche as it may sound..) It really looks good, but it tastes even better.
Among their list of cakes and desserts, Classic Confections also has fruit-based treats. The Mango Torte (Php 145) made of cashew nut meringue crust with vanilla custard and fresh mangos with whip cream, and the Mango Panna Cotta (Php 145) are just some of them.
While a lot of different dessert places serve lemon bars, this place has an innovative concoction, the Calamansi bars (Php 65). If you try this dessert, you would find that it tastes differently from the usual lemon bar; you could say that it has a milder tang. Nonetheless, this treat is worth the try.
Last but definitely not the least among the treats is the 1/2 Dozen Assorted Cookies (Php 125) Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip and Mocha Walnut. Really flavorful and chewy; enough said. ^^
