Yesterday was Jason’s birthday, so the family celebrated by having dinner at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), Promenade. I, being part of Manila Foodistas, was tasked to order the food (as always). Ordering food is such a hassle and a discomfort for a lot of people, including myself, but ordering in CPK is something different. It’s always easy for me to choose what to eat at this restaurant. And so, here’s a rundown of the food that we got:
We started with an appetizer, the Spinach Artichoke Dip (Php 625). The mix of hot spinach, artichoke, and cheese, plus the blue and white corn tortilla chips was perfect. All I can say is that you should let your non-veggie-eating kids and friends try this, and see if they won’t turn into spinach-lovers after. I can definitely eat this treat everyday.
The Waldorf Chicken Salad (Php 395) is “a rendition of a NYC favorite! Field greens, chilled-grilled chicken breast, seedless grapes, Granny Smith apples, candied walnuts, celery and Gorgonzola cheese” tossed with blue cheese dressing. (you can also opt to have it with Dijon balsamic vinaigrette). I loved the blue cheese going on in the salad, but the mix wasn’t that good for me.
The Kung Pao Chicken Spaghetti (Php 385) is another spicy and excellent dish of CPK. It has a “classic Kung Pao sauce with garlic, green onions, peanuts and HOT red chilies.” We had ours with chicken. It’s a great Asian invasion to the Pasta family.
“Blackened chicken and shrimp in a spicy Jambalaya sauce with crawfish, Andouille sausage and Tasso ham served on linguini fini and topped with fresh green onions” is what the Jambalaya’s (Php 425 for a half order) all about. This is my personal favorite along with the Adobo Pizza (see dish below)
The Adobo Pizza (complimentary) is an original promotional item served only in the Philippines. At first I really can’t determine the Adobo taste to it, but after a while, I got it. I knew that this was the bomb. The mix isn’t ordinary, but it all went together well. It is a CPK original worth having in international menus – I hope it becomes successful.
Last, but definitely not the least, was the White Pizza (Php 315). I know that my shobe (little sister) really loves cheese – well, who doesn’t, right? So this was her “ultimate heaven dish.” The combination of “Mozzarella, Fontina, Ricotta, Parmesan and Pecorino Romano cheeses with fresh sautéed spinach and garlic” plus applewood smoked bacon won us all.
As you can see, Jason’s having a bite from shobe. Staged? All I know is that he enjoyed the food and his birthday. The picture on the right is our bill, with play money. Kidding. We used our CPK gift certificates to pay for the meal, plus we added some more.
